Free lesson 1 of 10 from Linux for Beginners — Beat terminal fear — install Linux and actually use it, from zero. No account, no card.
If you've never opened a terminal in your life, you're in exactly the right place. This is the gentle on-ramp. We assume you know nothing about the command line, nothing about Linux, and that the black screen with the blinking cursor still makes you a little nervous. By the end you'll be moving around, editing files, installing software, and writing your first tiny program — and that fear will be gone.
Linux is a free operating system, like Windows or macOS, but it's open — anyone can see how it works, change it, and run it for free. It powers most of the internet's servers, nearly every Android phone, and the machines hackers and engineers use every day. Learning it opens a lot of doors. But we start slow, with the basics of just using the thing.
There are no videos here. You learn by reading the theory, then seeing the tools and the method, then doing it yourself. Every lesson ends with a small challenge. Stuck? Each one has a Show solution with the exact steps. That is how the knowledge actually sticks — you do it, not just watch it.
