Phishing: The #1 Way In

Free lesson 1 of 9 from Phishing & Scam Defense β€” Spot, stop, and report phishing, smishing and vishing.. No account, no card.

Why phishing beats every exploit

Phishing is a fraudulent message that impersonates someone you trust to trick you into clicking a link, opening an attachment, handing over a password, or approving a payment. It is consistently the single most common entry point for real breaches β€” cheaper, faster and more reliable for an attacker than any software vulnerability, because it targets the person instead of the code.

This course is the defender's side of the story: how to recognise, stop and report phishing across every channel. We explain attacker technique only as far as you need to spot it β€” the goal is detection and response, not running a campaign.

What you will be able to do

🎯 Challenge: A message says "Your account will be closed in 24 hours β€” verify now." Before you read the rest of this course, name the two things that message is trying to do to you.
Show solution

It manufactures urgency (a deadline, so you act before thinking) and it dangles a call to action / link ("verify now") that leads to a credential-harvest page or malware. Urgency + a link you didn't request is the core phishing shape.
